This role will be part of Zain Bahrain's Subsidiary Fintech Company - "Bede"
Bede, the fintech arm of Zain Bahrain, is a dynamic startup revolutionizing personal finance through Bahrain’s first Shariah-compliant Islamic financing app. Licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Bahrain, Bede is committed to creating an inclusive platform that offers practical solutions tailored to real customer needs.
With a focus on customer centricity, strategic partnerships, and digital innovation, Bede aims to guide individuals toward growth and success by leveling the playing field for all.
1. Test Planning & Scenario Design
Design comprehensive test plans and test scenarios for every new build, feature release, bug fix, and app change on the Bede mobile application.
Cover all critical user journeys including onboarding, identity verification, microfinance application, repayments, card management, remittances, wallet services, and any future product features.
Develop test cases for functional, regression, smoke, exploratory, and edge-case testing.
Ensure test scenarios reflect real-world usage patterns across different customer profiles, connection speeds, and device types.
Maintain a structured and up-to-date test case library accessible to the team and the QA vendor.
2. Device & Cross-Platform Testing
Execute manual testing across a range of iOS and Android devices, screen sizes, OS versions, and network conditions to ensure consistent app behaviour.
Identify device-specific or OS-version-specific defects and document them with full reproduction steps and device context.
Maintain a device testing matrix and ensure coverage of the most commonly used devices in the Bede customer base.
Test app behaviour on both stable Wi-Fi and mobile data conditions, including low-connectivity scenarios.
3. Defect Management & Build Feedback
Log, track, and manage all defects found during testing using the agreed defect management tool (e.g. JIRA), with clear severity classification, reproduction steps, screenshots, and expected vs. actual results.
Provide structured, detailed build feedback reports to the Digital Operations Project Manager and the development vendor before any release is approved to go live.
Re-test resolved defects to confirm fixes are complete and have not introduced new issues (regression testing).
Give a clear go / no-go recommendation for each build based on testing outcomes, with supporting documentation.
Track defect trends over time to identify recurring quality issues and feed these into improvement discussions with the vendor.
4. QA Vendor Coordination
Work closely with the external QA vendor on a day-to-day basis, aligning on test scope, priorities, timelines, and reporting standards.
Review and validate the QA vendor’s test plans, test scripts, and test results to ensure they are thorough, accurate, and aligned with Bede’s business requirements.
Flag gaps or inconsistencies in vendor testing coverage and work collaboratively to close them.
Maintain clear records of all vendor testing activities and outcomes for internal reference and audit purposes.
5. Release Validation & Go-Live Support
Conduct final pre-release validation testing on the production-ready build before every app release.
Perform post-deployment smoke testing immediately after a release goes live to confirm critical functions are working as expected.
Support the team during UAT sessions with internal stakeholders and business users.
Participate in sprint reviews and release sign-off meetings to provide a testing perspective.
6. Test Process Improvement
Continuously identify opportunities to improve the testing process, coverage, and efficiency, and propose these improvements to the Digital Operations Project Manager.
Contribute to building and maintaining internal testing documentation, guides, and best practice frameworks.
Over time, take ownership of evaluating and implementing a mobile app test automation framework — working with a vendor or building in-house capability — to reduce manual testing effort on regression and repetitive scenarios.
Stay current with mobile testing tools, automation frameworks (e.g. Appium, Selenium, Detox), and industry best practices relevant to fintech app testing.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with the development vendor, Product Manager, Digital Operations Project Manager, and Customer Care team to understand upcoming changes and ensure testing is planned in advance.
Participate in Agile sprint ceremonies including planning, grooming, and retrospectives.
Communicate testing status, risks, and blockers clearly and promptly to the relevant stakeholders.
Support the Product and UX teams by providing quality feedback on new designs and user flows before they reach development.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
0–2 years of experience in software testing, QA, or a related technical role. Fresh graduates with a strong IT background and demonstrated interest in mobile app testing are encouraged to apply.
Foundational understanding of software testing concepts including test case design, defect lifecycle, and regression testing.
Familiarity with mobile app testing on both iOS and Android platforms is a strong advantage.
Exposure to or awareness of test automation concepts and tools (e.g. Appium, Selenium, Detox) is a plus and will be developed in the role.
The ideal candidate is a methodical, curious, and technically minded graduate who takes pride in finding problems before customers do. They are comfortable working across devices, writing detailed test cases, and communicating defects clearly to developers and vendors — with a genuine interest in growing into mobile test automation over time.
Methodical approach to test case design and defect documentation
Hands-on experience testing iOS and Android mobile applications
Familiarity with defect tracking tools such as JIRA or equivalent
Understanding of Agile/Scrum development processes and sprint cycles
Clear written communication for bug reports and build feedback
Ability to work independently and manage multiple test cycles simultaneously
Curiosity and willingness to learn test automation tools and frameworks
Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset
