PRINCIPAL DATA ENGINEER

. JOB PURPOSE

Develop and maintain Big data & Data warehouse models and enrich them with required data across the organization and ensure proper storage of data assets; also will ensure the proper delivery of required data elements for either reporting or application needs.

Description

Data Modelling

1. Work with DWH & Big Data engineers to practice the proposed Data Architecture
2. Create logical & Physical data model for the required data structures using client's modelling standards and standard ERWin modelling tools.
3. Effectively support in applying the process of data mapping between source systems and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and from EDW to different integrated systems.

Data Transformation (Extract, Transform, and Load “ETL”)

1. Apply different data integration & ETL techniques between data sources and EDW and from EDW to different integrated systems
2. Practice the best approaches to use for data integration & transformation

Data Consumption

1. Analyse different application data needs from EDW
2. Practice the best approaches to use for applications data integration with EDW

Data Development

1. Practice Hadoop and big data technology stack for better data development.
2. Design data integration and distribution across Hadoop nodes
3. Responsible for applying best data movements’ techniques from and to Hadoop.

Controls

1. Adhere to the guiding principles of data warehousing & Big Data and Data Governance policy.
2. Support the Principle in Developing a feedback loop with data science and EPM/ERM team to constantly enhance data structure

Support in Setting data standards and procedures as part of the Data Counsel to ensure enterprise-wide quality and integration. Monitor and enforce data policies, procedures and standards. Identify gaps in compliance and work with data owners/custodians to put plans in place to close identified gaps.

Policies, Processes and Procedures

Follow all relevant department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner

Day-to-day operations

Implement the day-to-day operations assigned for the Data Architecture department to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures

Compliance

Comply with all relevant CBE regulations, banking laws, AML regulations and internal CIB policies and code of conduct in order to maintain CIB’s sound legal position and mitigate any potential risks

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree of computer science or its equivalent.
• MS or MBA in MIS, Computer Sciences, or Finance disciplines preferred with relevant business experience is a plus
• 6+ years’ experience with enterprise data warehouse & Big Data management; with at least 3 years of experience in data architecture
• Sound understanding of the financial services industry that allows for a detailed interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information
• Experience in handling complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources

Skills

• Excellent Data management skills using SQL, ErWin, and Data Management tools
• Excellent ETL skills with knowledge of Informatics & Data Stage
• Excellent Hadoop development skills (HBase, Hive, Impala, MR,….)
• Strong programming and object oriented experience (Java, Python, C#,..).
• Excellent analytical skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a dynamic & cross-team environment and work independently and directly with the business partners.
