Fraud Analytics Team at GAC is an integral part of the GAC Fraud Management Services providing cutting-edge data-driven insights to reduce the Fraud losses, drive operational efficiency and improve customer experience. The UK Fraud Analytics team in GAC Team forms the information basis for strategic planning by the senior management for fraud mitigation and enables effective decision making to satisfy business needs and requirements along with addressing unforeseen challenges. The role is an  Individual Contributor role and responsible for functionally delivering the Fraud Strategic initiatives across markets in line with the vision of adopting best in class fraud analytics solutions and allowing the business to make the appropriate strategic decisions to reduce fraud losses.



Address business problems with quantitative solutions like building of predictive algorithms / forecasting / scenario simulations etc.. Converting a business problem into a quantitative construct, solve it with available statistical / mathematical methods (following the right rigour), engage with IT to implement and finally interpret the outcomes in business language. The range of business problems may cover areas of business growth, improving customer experience, limiting risk exposure, capital quantification, enhancing internal business processes etc. They are required to, as necessary, embed agile & exploratory practices into their approach, justify the choice of appropriate methods to various internal and external reviewers. The role holder would be required to, as necessary, embed agile & exploratory practices into their approach as needed, and retain the flexibility to change track to adopt other solutions based on changed scenarios, to deliver on effective results. This talent group is expected to keep themselves apprised of latest developments and industry practices around emerging methodologies, techniques etc. and bring those in-house by applying them for better outcomes. The talent group can also be tapped into for providing solutions for varying areas including improving existing processes, technology, and approaches by embedding exploratory & analytics & taking it forward.



WPB Fraud Team is responsible for the engineering, industrialisation and delivery of analytical products to help mitigate financial crime in all the countries HSBC operates in.
Working across multiple fraud risk types our work helps to keep our customers and the communities we operate in safe from financial crime.
With a passion for all things data our innovative multi-disciplinary team works with cutting technology to deliver products that solve real business problems. Our team consists of agile, create and solution driven individuals that want to use big data, analytics and machine learning to detect and prevent financial crime.
You will work closely with stakeholders and other functions within WPB and WSB and Fraud to develop innovative and actionable models which help to manage fraud risk. The solutions we deliver need to manage risk effectively, be commercially focused, scalable across our many markets and lines of business and stand up to the rigors of internal and external scrutiny and review.



  • Support the development and deployment of models and analytical products to manage and mitigate financial crime risk
  • Develop new analytical practices in partnership with other Research & Analytics functions.
  • Manage model risk through the application of controls and standards
  • Interpret and manipulate large data set to extract trends and identify issues and risk
  • Use data visualization techniques to present complex ideas and provide self-service analytics

In this role, you will:



  • Act as an SME/consultant on a functional area, conceptualise analytical solution for the business problem at hand for multiple businesses/region
  • Lead/mentor a team of individuals to provide analytical and strategic solutions to business with clear articulation of recommendations
  • Partner with the business effectively to drive data driven decisions and generate value.
  • Good understanding of business domain, functional goals, and the required technical expertise
  • Owns delivery of high quality analytical solutions for the business stakeholders across one of more regions
  • Partner with business leaders in developing & owning analytical strategies to achieve business goals.
  • Translate key analytical solutions as generic and re-deployable across regions / markets
  • Supports innovative analytical thinking & solutions that results into improved business performance
  • Identifying the training & development needs of the team & self to ensure required upskilling happens to stay relevant.
  • Interact with senior management and communicate and synthesize information in a simple form

  • Drive the strategic agenda for enhancing Customer Experience, optimise fraud messaging and improve Net Promoter Score
  • Working experience in statistical modelling and advanced analytics
  • Mentor junior members in the team and collaborate on cross-team initiatives to drive overall UK Fraud Strategic Analytics
  • Prior working knowledge of Fraud Analytics and Fraud Messaging to spearhead the initiatives 
  • Drive the strategic agenda for enhancing Customer Experience, optimise fraud messaging and improve Net Promoter Score

Management of Risk/Internal Controls/Compliance:



  • The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Skills & Experience:



  • Proven experience(preferably from the Banking &/ Financial domain) of using quantitative concepts to solve complex business problems.
  • Background in quantitative disciplines like - with a Bachelor’s degree(minimum) in the relevant fields of study.
  • Strong analytical skills with business analysis experience or equivalent. In-depth knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations is a must
  • Strong knowledge of Visualization, Analytical and ML concepts like modeling, forecasting, segmentation etc
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven track record in dynamic/changing banking environments and matrix structure
  • Ability to nurture strong relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Exceptionally strong organizational, problem-solving & inter-personal skills. Ability to communicate clearly across various levels
  • Besides strong written and verbal communication skills the incumbent is also expected to have strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role – not the role holder.  Minimum requirements of the role.)

  • Degree level educated (or relevant work experience) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or any other quantitative discipline
  • Advanced analytical techniques e.g. regression analysis, predictive analysis, data mining, machine learning
  • Experience of one or more of the following: SAS, Python, Spark, SQL,Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Domain experience in financial crime would be an advantage but not essential (Fraud, Anti Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Sanctions)
  • Strong analytical thought process and aptitude for creative problem solving.
