This role is for one of Weekday’s clients Min Experience: 6+ years Location: Banglaore JobType: full-time ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: COBOL / AS400 (IBM i) Development: Design, develop, and enhance COBOL applications on AS400 (IBM i) platform.
Build new modules and functionalities based on business requirements.
Refactor and optimize existing code for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Follow structured programming practices and modular design principles.
Design and implement DB2 database structures, including physical and logical files.
Write efficient embedded SQL within COBOL programs.
Perform query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
Ensure efficient data access and processing strategies.
Required Skills & Experience: 6–10 years of hands-on experience in COBOL development on AS400 (IBM i).
Strong expertise in DB2 and embedded SQL.
Experience with CL programming and job execution.
Strong understanding of batch processing and file handling.
Solid experience in application development, enhancement, and performance tuning.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Regular Tasks Required: Translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented COBOL code.
Conduct unit testing and support integration testing activities.
Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards.
Create and maintain technical documentation (design specs, program logic, workflows).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (analysts, QA, architects) to deliver features.
Continuously improve code quality and development practices.
Useful but non mandatory skills: Experience with IBM i modernization initiatives.
Exposure to RPG / ILE concepts.
Familiarity with API integration or enabling legacy systems for modern interfaces.
Experience with version control and change management tools - Aldon.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience) At least 6+ years of relevant experience as a Cobol developer on AS400 (IBM i) Excellent communication abilities to work with stakeholders and developers successfully Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Fluent in conversational and written English communication skills Must-have skills COBOL, AS400, DB2 Good-to-have skills Embedded SQL, CL Programming, Aldon
