About the Role


This position is required to develop and manage some of the most prestigious journals, ensuring their continued growth, quality, and impact. The role demands a strong Strategic Mindset, effective Stakeholder Balancing, and deep Editorial Skills to drive success across all dimensions of journal management.


Key Responsibilities


  • Take independent responsibility for assigned journals, including strategic development, editorial performance, and stakeholder management, demonstrating Strategic Mindset, Editorial Skills, and Balances Stakeholder.
  • Drive journal development and growth by increasing submissions, publications, quality, impact, and acceptance rates in consultation with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Boards, and publishing partners, applying Business Insights, Editorial Skills, and Market Intelligence.
  • Be accountable for the assigned journal's financial performance, business planning, profitability, and operational metrics, including turnaround times and publication targets, leveraging Financial Acumen and Business Insights.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, societies, institutions, and publishing partners, acting as the primary strategic contact and escalating issues in a timely manner, showcasing Communicates Effectively, Consulting Skills, and Balances Stakeholder.
  • Support Publishers in the journals acquisition and commissioning process to strengthen the portfolio, using Market Intelligence and Strategic Mindset.
  • Support societies, editors, and publishing partners in adapting to evolving publishing policies, Open Access developments, research integrity requirements, and workflow changes, applying Pedagogy, Consulting Skills, and Communicates Effectively.

Specific Responsibilities


  • Assist PD in generating new leads, preparing journal proposals, acquisitions, contracts, renewals, amendments, and royalty/stipend agreements, demonstrating Business Insights and Financial Acumen.
  • Manage pipeline reports for the journal portfolio to ensure program growth, applying Strategic Mindset and Market Intelligence.
  • Oversee guest editor orientation and coordinate between EM (JEO) and Production, ensuring proper publication sequence and technical accuracy, leveraging Editorial Skills and Communicates Effectively.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping across internal systems (JFlow, Editorial Manager, SNAPP, CRM, Docusign, etc.), ensuring smooth operations with Business Insights and Financial Acumen.
  • Maintain publishing data, archives, and pipeline documentation across internal platforms, applying Editorial Skills and Strategic Mindset.
  • Prepare materials for conferences, including PowerPoint presentations for board members, and assist the global team as necessary, showcasing Communicates Effectively and Pedagogy.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:


  • Minimum bachelor's degree with at least 5-7 years of direct experience in developing and managing journals is a must.
  • Experience working in Editorial manager will be a plus.
  • An eye for detail; exhibiting strong organizational and analytical skills are a must.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; thorough knowledge of office procedures including efficient e-recordkeeping.
  • Good team player and strong interpersonal skills to manage expectations.
  • Strong computer skills required in MS Word, Excel; and power point is a must.
