Purpose of the role
To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure.

Join us as a Cloud Data Architect at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions.
To be successful as a Cloud Data Architect, you should have experience with:
8–12 years of experience in data architecture, engineering, or large-scale data platform design, including at least 5 years working with cloud technologies.
Deep expertise in one or more major cloud platforms, preferably AWS and/or Azure.
Strong experience designing enterprise-scale data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics platforms leveraging tools such as Snowflake, Redshift, Synapse, or equivalent technologies.
Hands-on experience with modern data processing frameworks and technologies including Databricks, Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, and related ecosystems.
Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and advanced data modeling techniques.
Comprehensive understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and master data management principles.
Experience implementing DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity, risk management, and regulatory requirements, including GDPR, SOX, and enterprise security controls.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence senior technical and business audiences.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex technology transformation initiatives.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Data Analytics, Azure Data Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent certifications.
Experience supporting large-scale regulatory, risk, cybersecurity, or enterprise data initiatives.
Exposure to AI/ML platforms, advanced analytics, and emerging cloud-native data capabilities.
Experience within financial services or highly regulated industries is advantageous.
