Your team
The Database Development team operates within the Data Platform department and serves as the organization's center of excellence for all database-related initiatives. The team's core responsibilities encompass:
Database Management & Development:
Design, development, and implementation of database solutions across the enterprise
Management of schema changes, stored procedures, packages, and database objects
Performance tuning and optimization of database queries and processes
Ongoing maintenance and support for production database environments across multiple platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
Data Engineering & Pipeline Management:
Building and maintaining robust data pipelines in cloud environments (AWS, GCP)
Developing ETL/ELT processes to support data warehouse and analytics requirements
Managing data integration workflows between source systems and target platforms
Ensuring data quality, integrity, and governance across all data movement processes
Team Structure & Collaboration:
Works closely with Database development, Datawarehouse, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, and Infrastructure teams
Provides technical consultation and expertise to business stakeholders
Supports regulatory reporting and compliance requirements through reliable data delivery
Participates in incident management and provides 24/7 production support coverage

As a key member of the Database Development team, you will play a pivotal role in driving our data platform capabilities forward. Your contributions will directly impact:

What you’ll do
Core Development Responsibilities:
Requirements Analysis & Design: Collaborate with Technical Leads and Technical Specialists to analyze technical requirements and translate them into detailed low-level designs and implementation plans
End-to-End Data Development: Create comprehensive source-to-target column mappings, develop business logic transformation rules, and convert requirements into production-ready technical code
Code Development & Quality: Write high-quality, maintainable PLSQL stored procedures, packages, functions, collections, and triggers that meet enterprise coding standards and best practices
Testing & Quality Assurance: Develop robust unit test cases, perform thorough code reviews, and coordinate closely with QA teams throughout all testing phases to ensure defect-free deliveries
Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain ETL/ELT processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading across multiple source systems and cloud platforms
Performance & Optimization:
Query Performance Tuning: Work with the Data Services team to identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks, optimize SQL queries, and improve overall system efficiency
Data Lifecycle Management: Contribute to data archival strategies, partition management, and storage optimization initiatives to maintain optimal database performance
Monitoring & Proactive Maintenance: Implement monitoring solutions and proactive maintenance procedures to prevent issues before they impact production systems
Cloud & Modernization Initiatives:
Cloud Migration Support: Participate in ongoing cloud migration projects from on-premises to GCP, helping modernize data infrastructure and adopt cloud-native technologies
Automation Development: Leverage Python scripting to automate repetitive tasks, improve operational efficiency, and reduce manual intervention in data processes
Technology Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute ideas for improving development practices, tooling, and architectural patterns
Production Support & Collaboration:
Production Support: Provide level 2/3 production support during business hours and participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support when critical issues arise (approximately 20% of role)
Incident Management: Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and implementation of permanent fixes to prevent recurrence
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Infrastructure, and business stakeholder teams in a fast-paced, agile environment
Regulatory Compliance Support: Contribute to regulatory reporting initiatives and ensure data solutions meet financial services compliance requirements (MiFID, EMIR, ASIC, etc.)
Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Technical Specialists to identify process improvements, enhance ways of working, and mentor junior team members
What We're Looking For:
Required Technical Skills:
Database Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on experience with Oracle Database (11g/12c/19c), including advanced SQL, PLSQL development, performance tuning, and optimization
Programming Proficiency:
Expert-level PLSQL coding skills (stored procedures, packages, functions, collections, triggers, dynamic SQL)
Strong Python scripting capabilities for automation and data processing
Solid Unix/Linux shell scripting experience
SQL Mastery: Advanced SQL query writing and optimization skills, including complex joins, analytical functions, partitioning strategies, and execution plan analysis
Data Warehousing Knowledge: Strong understanding of Data Warehouse architecture, dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas, and BI concepts
ETL/ELT Processes: Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT workflows, data transformation logic, and data integration patterns
Development Practices: Strong unit testing skills, code versioning (Git), and adherence to coding standards and best practices
Highly Desirable Skills:
Cloud Technologies (GCP): Experience with Google Cloud Platform services including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, and Looker
Additional Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with AWS services (Redshift, S3, Glue, Lambda) and multi-cloud architectures
BI Tools: OBIEE 11g/12c experience, including RPD development, dashboard creation, and report building
Modern Data Stack: Exposure to streaming technologies (Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub), containerization (Docker), and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
Programming Languages: Core Java knowledge for enterprise application integration
Financial Services Background: Previous experience in banking, trading, or financial services sectors with understanding of regulatory requirements
Agile Methodologies: Practical experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and iterative delivery
