1The Electrical Power Generation Engineer is part of the Discipline Engineering organization within Chevron's ENGINE center. This role is responsible for the design, operation, reliability, and optimization of electrical systems supporting power generation facilities. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient generation and delivery of electrical power while complying with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company safety expectations. The engineer collaborates closely with operations, maintenance, projects, and external partners to support lifecycle performance of generation assets.

Responsibilities


Technical & Operational Support


  • Provide engineering support for power generation electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, excitation systems, protection and control, and auxiliary power systems.


  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment failures and support root cause analysis for unplanned outages and incidents.


  • Review operating data to identify performance, reliability, and efficiency improvement opportunities.


  • Support commissioning, start-up, and decommissioning activities for generation assets.


Design & Projects


  • Lead or support design reviews for new installations, upgrades, and modifications to electrical power generation systems.


  • Develop and review electrical studies (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, arc flash, grounding).


  • Review vendor technical proposals, drawings, and equipment specifications.


  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC, NEMA). Focus on electrical power systems & equipment’s)


Protection, Control & Digital Systems


  • Support protective relay scheme design, settings development, testing, and maintenance strategies.


  • Interface with plant control systems, condition monitoring, and digital tools to improve asset health visibility.


  • Support cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection requirements as applicable.


Safety, Compliance & Risk Management


  • Promote a strong electrical safety culture and ensure compliance with company and regulatory safety requirements.


  • Participate in hazard analyses, management of change (MOC), and electrical risk assessments.


  • Ensure generation systems meet regulatory, environmental, and reliability requirements.


  • Note: Office-based with periodic travel to operating facilities and project sites. It is anticipated that domestic and international travel, or in some cases, Temporary Domestic Assignments of up to 24 months at engineering contractor’s offices will be required. Occasional after-hours or on-call support may be required for unplanned events.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).


  • Strong working knowledge of power system equipment, protection systems, and electrical safety practices.


  • Experience with design reviews, troubleshooting, and lifecycle asset support.


Preferred Qualifications


  • 10+ years of experience supporting electrical systems in power generation, industrial, or utility environments.


  • Experience with large rotating equipment (generators, motors) and high-voltage systems.


  • Experience with ETAP systems preferred.


  • Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and asset management practices.


  • Experience supporting both conventional (gas, steam) and renewable generation assets


Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm
