Job Summary


The Service Engineer is responsible for providing advanced diagnostic, repair, overhaul, and maintenance support for Cummins gas engine and power generation products. This role serves as a technical expert for customers and internal teams, ensuring equipment reliability, optimal performance, and customer satisfaction. The position requires strong expertise in gas engine systems, mining applications, service processes, and Cummins diagnostic tools while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities Service Operations & Technical Support


  • Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds of gas engines, generators, and related systems with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance activities in accordance with Cummins standards and service schedules.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to fuel systems, ignition systems, air-fuel management systems, turbochargers, aftercoolers, exhaust systems, and engine control modules (ECMs).
  • Utilize specialized service tools, electronic diagnostic equipment, and Cummins software applications to identify root causes and validate repairs.
  • Support commissioning, performance optimization, and operational reliability of gas engine installations.

Customer Support & Service Excellence


  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers during service events.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships by providing timely and effective technical support.
  • Identify additional service opportunities and recommend solutions that improve equipment performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Escalate complex technical issues through appropriate channels and ensure timely resolution.

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting


  • Apply structured troubleshooting methodologies to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
  • Analyze interactions between engine systems including fuel, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, controls, sensors, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Interpret diagnostic data and service reports to recommend corrective actions and prevent recurrence of failures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by capturing lessons learned and technical best practices.

Documentation & Compliance


  • Complete service reports, warranty documentation, timesheets, and technical records accurately and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with Cummins service processes, SDP requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to export control, regulatory, and customer-specific requirements.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)


  • Follow all Cummins HSE policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure safe work practices during all field service and maintenance activities.

Coaching & Knowledge Sharing


  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Support technical training initiatives and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned to improve team capability and service effectiveness.

Responsibilities:
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Vocational Certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Power Generation, or a related technical discipline.
  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician certification preferred.
  • Valid driving license required.
  • Additional certifications related to engine diagnostics, power generation systems, or industrial equipment maintenance are advantageous.

  • Strong knowledge of Cummins Service KPIs, Optimus, and Service Delivery Process (SDP).

  • Experience providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Cummins service tools, processes, and systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on large gas engines and power generation systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced engine controls, performance tuning, and emissions systems.
