Position Overview:
The Senior Executive / Assistant Manager – Hub Operations is responsible for managing end-to-end mid-mile operations at an assigned Air Hub or Surface Hub, ensuring seamless movement of shipments across the Blue Dart network. The role oversees inbound, outbound and transit operations, enabling timely network connectivity, operational accuracy and service reliability while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and productivity.
Reporting to the Head – Hub Operations, the incumbent leads shift operations across the hub by coordinating shipment processing, fleet movements, manpower deployment and operational resources. The role works closely with Network Operations, Aviation, Surface Linehaul, Customer Service and Regional Operations teams to ensure network schedules are met, operational exceptions are proactively managed and hub performance supports Blue Dart's service commitments.
Job Purpose:
To manage mid-mile hub operations by ensuring timely movement of shipments across the network, maximising hub productivity, maintaining network connectivity, driving operational excellence and ensuring compliance with organisational standards, safety requirements and service commitments.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Hub Operations Management
- Lead day-to-day operations across the assigned Air Hub or Surface Hub, ensuring efficient inbound, outbound and transit shipment movement.
- Ensure adherence to network schedules, operational workflows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Plan daily hub activities based on shipment volumes, network priorities and operational requirements.
- Ensure optimum utilisation of hub infrastructure, operational resources and manpower.
- Support the Head – Hub Operations in achieving operational, service quality and productivity objectives.
Mid Mile Network Operations
- Ensure timely receipt, processing, consolidation and dispatch of shipments across the Blue Dart network.
- Coordinate movement of shipments through scheduled air, surface and feeder networks to maintain network connectivity.
- Monitor loading, unloading, scanning, tallying and dispatch activities to ensure shipment accuracy.
- Coordinate vehicle placement and dock activities to minimise turnaround times.
- Ensure timely movement of priority, premium and time-definite shipments across the network.
Network Coordination & Exception Management
- Monitor adherence to network schedules and proactively manage delays, misconnections, misroutes and operational exceptions.
- Coordinate with Aviation, Surface Linehaul, Network Operations and Regional Operations teams to resolve operational issues.
- Ensure timely communication of network disruptions and recovery actions to impacted stakeholders.
- Monitor stock lying at hub (SLAH) and drive timely clearance of pending shipments.
- Ensure accurate status updates and operational visibility across all network systems.
Workforce & Shift Leadership
- Lead operational employees, supervisors and outsourced workforce during assigned shifts.
- Plan manpower deployment based on shipment volumes and operational priorities.
- Conduct daily shift briefings and communicate operational updates and safety requirements.
- Monitor workforce productivity, attendance and adherence to operational standards.
- Support capability building through coaching, training and performance feedback.
Fleet, Capacity & Resource Management
- Ensure availability and optimum utilisation of vehicles, trailers and operational equipment to support scheduled network movements.
- Coordinate with fleet partners and transport vendors to minimise delays and maximise vehicle utilisation.
- Monitor dock utilisation, bay allocation and turnaround times to improve hub efficiency.
- Support capacity planning during peak volumes, network changes and seasonal demand fluctuations.
- Ensure operational readiness of manpower, equipment and infrastructure to meet business requirements.
Service Quality & Operational Excellence
- Drive adherence to network timelines and ensure timely connectivity of shipments across the air or surface network.
- Monitor shipment accuracy, scanning compliance, loading quality and dispatch integrity to minimise operational errors.
- Ensure timely closure of operational exceptions, stock lying at hub (SLAH), misroutes and misconnections.
- Review operational performance trends and implement corrective actions to improve service reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance hub productivity, service quality and operational efficiency.
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, operational SOPs, aviation or transportation regulations and statutory requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring safe handling of shipments, vehicles and operational equipment.
- Support periodic operational, security and quality audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory documentation, shipment security requirements and operational controls applicable to the hub.
- Identify operational risks and implement preventive measures to ensure uninterrupted hub operations.
Stakeholder Management & Operational Communication
- Coordinate closely with Network Operations, Aviation, Surface Operations, Customer Service, Security and Regional Operations teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Maintain effective communication with upstream and downstream network locations regarding shipment movements, operational disruptions and recovery plans.
- Ensure timely escalation of operational risks, capacity constraints and service issues to the Head – Hub Operations.
- Build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and transport partners to improve network performance.
- Support implementation of organisational initiatives, process changes and operational improvement programmes across the hub.
People Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, coach and develop supervisors, operational employees and outsourced workforce to achieve operational objectives.
- Conduct regular shift briefings and ensure effective communication of operational priorities, safety requirements and service expectations.
- Monitor employee productivity, attendance, discipline and overall team performance.
- Support implementation of learning initiatives and on-the-job capability development programmes.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement and customer focus across the hub.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
- Degree or certification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or Transportation Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Senior Executive – Hub Operations (Grade N): 3–5 years of experience in hub operations, mid-mile logistics, transportation or express distribution.
- Assistant Manager – Hub Operations (Grade M): 4 - 7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated experience in leading medium to large hub operations.
- Experience in managing inbound, outbound and transit operations within an air or surface logistics network.
- Exposure to fleet coordination, shipment movement, operational planning and network performance management.
- Experience in leading frontline operational teams and working in high-volume, time-sensitive logistics environments
