Job description

Role Summary
The Senior Applications DevOps Engineer will play a pivotal part in enabling secure, scalable, and efficient software delivery on the Microsoft Azure platform. Operating within the Application DevOps Team, this role focuses specifically on automating build, test, and deployment workflows to bridge the gap between development and operations.
The successful candidate will leverage deep expertise in Azure DevOps to orchestrate CI/CD pipelines for a diverse range of architectures, including .NET web applications, serverless functions, and mobile solutions. This role requires a distinct focus on application lifecycle automation, while collaborating closely with the Infrastructure Team to ensure alignment with the underlying Azure environment foundations.
Who we want to work with
We are looking for more than just a skilled DevOps engineer for this role - we are looking for someone who will act as a true leader within the team. The nature of our work requires individuals who can navigate ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, and take ownership from idea through to delivery and beyond. This role is not about waiting for perfectly defined requirements or relying on constant direction; it’s about actively shaping solutions, contributing to the direction of the platform, and driving meaningful outcomes. By combining strong communication, healthy scepticism, and product awareness, you will help ensure we build the right things in the right way -
balancing speed, quality, and long-term value. Ultimately, we want someone who doesn’t just deliver code, but who elevates the team, influences decisions, and plays a key role in building a scalable, globally aligned platform.
You are comfortable with ambiguity

You can tan take a vague problem and turn it into concrete steps.

You ask clarifying questions but don't get blocked by missing details.

You make reasonable assumptions AND document them.
You show Strong technical judgement

You always try to avoid overengineering AND under engineering a solution.

You know when to choose a simple implementation versus something scalable.

You can explain trade-offs clearly (i.e. performance vs complexity, implementation speed vs maintainability).
You show ownership & accountability

You own each solution all the way through to completion (edge cases, rollout, monitoring).

You take responsibility when things go wrong.

Everyone makes mistakes – you learn from them.
You take the lead and can act independently

You make progress without constant check-ins.

You are confident in owning your decisions.

You know when to escalate versus when to push through and retrospectively inform us of what was done.
You are an excellent communicator

You can articulate half-formed ideas and refine them collaboratively.

You can explain technical concepts in plain language

You know when to respectfully push back when something doesn't make sense
You show healthy scepticism

You challenge assumptions.

You avoid blindly following specifications or industry trends.

You can suggest alternative ideas and solutions and more importantly, articulate your reasoning.
You have product awareness and own the platform

The impact to the end user is the first thing you think about when making a change.

You are to grasp the business context and align to our business goals.

You focus on the outcome, not just on the output.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Architecture & Automation

Pipeline Design: Design, build, and optimize robust CI/CD pipelines using Azure Pipelines (YAML preferred) for various application types (.NET Web, Azure Functions, Mobile Apps).

Deployment Automation: Automate the deployment of ASP.NET applications to Azure PaaS offerings (App Services, Azure Functions) and manage database schema deployments using tools like DACPACs, EF Migrations, or Redgate.

Mobile Operations: Develop and manage pipelines for building, signing, and deploying iOS and Android applications public App Stores (Apple/Google) and enterprise distribution platforms (Microsoft Intune).

Task Automation: Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python to streamline developer tasks, such as generating sanitized database dumps for local environments.
Operational Excellence & Security

Security & Secrets: Implement secure credential management strategies, primarily leveraging Azure Key Vault to automate secret injection into target resources and pipelines.

Environment Strategy: Manage robust strategies for promoting builds across Azure environments (Dev, Test, QA, Staging, Production) to ensure consistency and traceability.

Optimization: Continuously monitor pipeline execution to identify bottlenecks, analyze failures, and optimize for speed and reliability.
Collaboration & Integration

Quality Integration: Integrate automated testing stages (unit, integration, acceptance) into pipelines to ensure code quality and enable rapid feedback loops.

Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Software Development teams to design and build pipelines and the Infrastructure DevOps Team to ensure application requirements are reflected in infrastructure deployments.

Documentation: Maintain clear, concise documentation for deployment processes and automation scripts to support knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the software development industry.

Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer with a specific focus on CI/CD implementation.

Proven experience in the .NET ecosystem and Microsoft Azure platform.
Technical Skills

Azure DevOps: Deep, hands-on experience with Azure Pipelines (YAML), Azure Repos, and Azure Artifacts.

Scripting: Strong proficiency in PowerShell is essential; familiarity with Azure CLI and Bash is required.

Build & Deploy: Solid understanding of the .NET build process (MSBuild/dotnet CLI) and experience deploying to Azure PaaS (App Service, SQL Database).

Database DevOps: Experience automating database schema migrations and updates (DACPAC, EF Migrations, etc.).

Mobile DevOps: Experience deploying mobile applications via App Stores and familiarity with distribution tools like Intune is highly desirable.

Security: Proficiency in secret management, specifically utilizing Azure Key Vault within automation workflows.

Source Control: Expert knowledge of Git, including complex branching and merging strategies.
Language Proficiency

English: Advanced / Professional working proficiency (C1 level or higher) in both verbal and written English is mandatory for daily collaboration with international stakeholders.
What We Offer

Modern Cloud Automation: Work at the forefront of the Microsoft ecosystem. You won't just be maintaining legacy scripts; you’ll be architecting sophisticated YAML-based pipelines for .NET 8+, Azure PaaS, Angular, and cross-platform mobile apps using the latest Azure DevOps features.

Architectural Ownership: You are the strategic bridge between code and cloud. You will have the autonomy to design deployment patterns, manage environment progression strategies, and choose the automation tools that best solve complex delivery challenges.

Operational Impact: Your work directly accelerates our release velocity. By optimizing build times, automating database migrations, and enforcing security protocols, you become the force multiplier that enables our product teams to deliver mission-critical software faster and more reliably.

Collaborative Culture: Join a team that treats DevOps as a culture. You will collaborate closely with Technical Leads and Senior Developers to solve real-world problems, ensuring that automation is baked into the software design process from day one.
