Job description

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer II to join the Amazon External Payments (AEP) Trust team. Our charter protects customers and merchants across Agentic Payments and third-party merchant portfolios by building and operating systems that detect fraud, assess risk, and manage disputes at scale. You'll design and build services that directly safeguard payment transactions, working with modern distributed systems while having the autonomy to innovate and simplify complex payment safety workflows. This role offers a unique blend of high-impact problem solving, greenfield product development, and the opportunity to shape how AI/GenAI transforms payment trust and safety.
Key job responsibilities
1. Design, develop, and operate highly available, low-latency services that power fraud detection, risk assessment, and dispute resolution for Amazon's external payment ecosystem.
2. Own end-to-end delivery of features — from requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
3. Build and evolve APIs and data pipelines that support real-time payment decisioning across multiple merchant portfolios.
4. Collaborate with product, science, and partner teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
5. Drive operational excellence through automation, observability improvements, and reducing operational burden.
6. Contribute to the team's GenAI adoption strategy by participating in AIDLC (AI Development Life Cycle) initiatives.
7. Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
8. Participate in on-call rotation with a manageable operational load that provides learning opportunities.
About the team
The AEP Trust team builds fraud prevention, risk management, and dispute handling systems for Amazon's external payments — including Agentic Payments and third-party merchants. We offer engineers freedom to innovate and ship ideas that simplify complex payment safety. Our charter continuously evolves with new payment modalities and fraud patterns, meaning greenfield work. We maintain balanced operations. We dedicate structured time for GenAI adoption through AIDLC execution.
- 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
