Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of data center cooling through advanced CFD analysis and innovative mechanical system design? Do you want to own the technical direction of CFD modeling standards across a global engineering organization? Are you ready to lead the development of thermal solutions that directly influence how we scale our infrastructure worldwide?
In this role you will own the end-to-end CFD modeling strategy for complex mechanical systems — from internal data hall thermal analysis to campus-wide external wind and contaminant dispersion studies. You will define methodologies and standards that scale globally, lead the development of innovative cooling solutions, and serve as the technical authority for thermal performance across the organization. As the subject matter expert, you will be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology.
Key job responsibilities
CFD Modeling & Technical Leadership
● Defining the CFD modeling approach for innovative data center designs; developing validation methodologies and establishing best practices for the broader engineering team
● Leading internal CFD studies for data halls and electrical rooms, including steady-state thermal analysis under N unit failure scenarios and N+1 operational conditions at full load
● Performing transient thermal studies to assess IT equipment survivability during concurrent power failure and unit failure events, including time-to-recovery analysis post power restoration
● Owning external CFD studies encompassing full campus mechanical and electrical plant, including adjacent industrial complexes and site obstructions, and leading thermal plume recirculation analysis to understand heat dissipating equipment impact on building and equipment intake temperatures
● Performing air emissions and contaminant dispersion modeling to quantify generator exhaust ingestion into building intakes
● Proposing and validating mitigation strategies where results indicate exceedance of defined limits, and implementing solutions into the CFD model for verification
● Managing external CFD consultants including review and approval of return briefs, model inputs, assumptions, and boundary conditions prior to solving
Mentorship & Team Development
● Providing mentoring, guidance and developing junior engineers in CFD techniques, mechanical design best practices, and professional growth
