Position: Workover Superintendent
Department: Wells
Location: Basra, Iraq
Duration: 12 months renewable
Rotation: 28/28

Role Synopsis

The Workover Superintendent reports to the Workover & Completions Manager. The role shall be responsible for safe and efficient delivery of workover and completion operations for 5 – 6 workover rigs in the field, working closely with Workover Delivery teams, Workover Engineering rig and service contractors, supply chain and logistics, HSE, Civil Engineering, Production Operations and other functions within the Wells Department.

Key Accountabilities  
  • Role modelling of Safety Leadership Principles and values for the team
  • Driving technical competency and adherence to Standards across engineering planning and field operations.
  • Provide oversight and assurance of activities across multiple rigs.
  • Lead collaborative problem solving with Workover Delivery teams, workover engineering including change and management of same, leveraging rig knowledge and other available expertise.
  • Provide oversight of operations including water shutoff, ESP repair, ESP installations, well integrity repairs, water injection completions, and natural flow completions, all in accordance with minimum operating standards.
  • Collaboratively manage rig contractor relationships.
  • Oversee Workover Delivery Teams to guide the way they work.
  • Participate in performance reviews and lessons learned sessions.
  • Collaboratively engage in team's reporting to ensure correctness of reports.
  • Oversee Workover Team Leads to provide direction to WSL, rig and service contractors to safely and efficiently execute the workover programmes on specific rigs in accordance with standards and processes.
  • Lead or assist incident investigations, following through to close-out as required.
  • Lead technical and safety audits, following through to close-out as required.
  • Lead and coordinate technical input to workover contract tender specifications and evaluation.
  • Coach, mentor and build team capability in a multi-cultural environment including contractors both in the office and the field, taking lead role in formulation and evolution of local workover staff developmental programmes.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement in safety and operations, including regular updates and reviews of Wells standards.

Specific Focus Areas
  • Driving Safety Leadership.
  • Well Control and Well Bore Monitoring.
  • Oversight of Rig Contractor adherence to their SMS.
  • Driving rigour in WSL daily activities.
  • Rig specification focal point.

Criteria & Qualifications         
  • 15 years relevant oilfield experience in Workover, Completion and/or Drilling activity.
  • Ideally, 7+ years as a Superintendent.
  • Experience with land rig workover operations and planning, including fishing, water shutoff, water injection and ESP operations.
  • Good communication and mentoring skills to be commensurate with the above job role. Strong written and spoken English language skills required.
  • Strong team player.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing rig and service contractors on multiple rig operations.
  • Aptitude for innovation and being open to new ideas.
  • Current IWCF Level 4 Well Control certification or equivalent.
  • Flexible approach to work.
Ideally:
  • Educated to Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Experience of working in a JV.
  • Middle East experience.
  • Comprehensive technical/operational understanding of Workover, Completions and Well Intervention practices and Well Integrity principles.
  • Experience of managing operations on Wells with Total Losses.

Travel required           
  • Office based with frequent visits to the rigs in the field (typically within 1 hr from office).
