Role Purpose

The Part Time Facilities and Health & Safety Assistant supports the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of all HFIS campuses. Working under the direction of the Facilities and H&S Manager, this role ensures that the buildings, grounds, and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with local health and safety regulations.


Key Responsibilities Facilities and Maintenance Support
  • Support the Facilities and H&S Manager with the coordination of daily maintenance, cleaning, and repair tasks.


  • Conduct regular site checks to identify maintenance issues and report them promptly.


  • Liaise with contractors and service providers on-site, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard.


  • Assist with setting up, dismantling, and moving equipment and furniture for school activities, meetings, and events.


  • Support the coordination of maintenance requests, ensuring prioritisation and timely resolution.


  • Maintain records and assist with the filing of invoices, quotes, and service reports.


Health & Safety
  • Support the implementation of the school’s Health & Safety (H&S) policies and procedures.


  • Conduct routine inspections of fire safety, first aid, and emergency equipment (e.g., extinguishers, AEDs, first aid kits).


  • Assist in maintaining H&S documentation, such as risk assessments, inspection logs, and incident reports.


  • Help coordinate H&S training and drills (e.g., fire and lockdown drills).


  • Support the management of hazardous materials and ensure compliance with local safety standards.


  • Report and record any H&S incidents, near misses, or hazards to the Facilities and H&S Manager.


Events & Operations
  • Provide on-site support for events, ensuring proper set-up, safety, and venue readiness.


  • Assist with event logistics such as unlocking/locking facilities and ensuring security procedures are followed.


Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, or H&S support role (educational environment desirable).


  • Good understanding of general building safety and maintenance practices.


  • Basic knowledge of H&S procedures and willingness to attend training.


  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills.


  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.


  • Practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.


  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends for school events.


  • Driver’s licence required.


  • Good use of Microsoft Excel
