Introduction
Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. It is the first hospital in East Africa to be accredited by the Joint Commission International from the USA. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years.
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring provision of effective, efficient, quality analytical laboratory services in the hospital.
Responsibilities:
Receives specimens for general and specialized for Molecular assays.
Analyze tests with maximum efficiency
Ensure timely reporting of critical values
Produce valid results ensuring maximum utilization of reagents and time.
Analyze tests with maximum efficiency signed by senior laboratory staff.
Equipment maintenance.
Maintain appropriate internal controls on all processes in Molecular biology testing
Manage routine and planned preventive maintenance of equipment in the section
Run internal controls and QC with allMolecular assays
Develop and implement SOPs in Molecular.
Participate in SOP writing in the section.
Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations in the laboratory
Requirements:
Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institute or equivalent
Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
Minimum 3 years’ working experience
Competent in Molecular Skills including nucleic acid isolation from variety of samples, QC procedures and analysis, PCR techniques, sequencing techniques including next-generation sequencing.
Competent in operating the usual open and closed molecular equipment and platforms.
Competent in operating manual and automated workflows.
Bioinformatic skills are an added advantage.
