Role Summary



The Data Governance Engineer will design, implement, and operationalize data governance controls across Microsoft 365 (M365) services including SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams. The role focuses on ensuring data quality, compliance, lifecycle management, classification, and protection using Microsoft Purview and native M365 capabilities.



This position requires deep technical expertise combined with governance framework design, automation, and compliance monitoring.




Key Responsibilities



1. Governance Framework Implementation



Design and implement enterprise-wide data governance models for M365
Define data classification, retention, and lifecycle policies
Establish control frameworks for file duplication, ownership, and metadata consistency
Align governance with regulatory standards (GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, etc.)




2. Microsoft Purview & Compliance Controls



Configure and manage:
Sensitivity Labels
Retention Labels & Policies
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Policies
Records Management
Information Barriers (if applicable)
Develop auto-labeling policies based on content inspection
Enable audit logs, eDiscovery, and insider risk management




3. Data Lifecycle & Quality Management



Implement controls for:
Duplicate file detection & remediation
Content sprawl reduction
Versioning and archival strategies
Define data ownership and stewardship models
Establish data quality rules and monitoring mechanisms




4. Automation & Remediation



Develop Power Automate workflows for:
Metadata enforcement
File lifecycle actions (archival, deletion, labeling)
Use PowerShell / Graph API for:
Bulk enforcement of policies
Compliance validation
Reporting and remediation
Automate exception handling and governance violations




5. Monitoring, Reporting & Auditing



Build and maintain governance dashboards using Power BI
Monitor compliance using:
Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal
Audit Logs
Define KPIs such as:
% labeled content
Data retention compliance
Duplicate file reduction rate
Provide audit-ready reports for internal and external stakeholders




6. Collaboration & Operating Model



Work closely with:
Security & Compliance teams
M365 administrators
Business data owners
Define RACI matrix for governance activities
Participate in governance councils and steering committees





Required profile :
