Job description

Our Company:

At Teradata, we believe that people thrive when empowered with better information. Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform activates enterprise intelligence by unifying data, knowledge and business context to achieve tangible outcomes. With Teradata, organizations can provide agents with full context for impact when it matters. Our solution lets businesses connect and scale on premises, in the cloud, or through a hybrid approach. Teradata delivers real business value with AI.

What You'll Do:

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead our Database Performance Testing and Characterization organization. This leader will manage a high-impact team responsible for performance benchmarking, regressions, scalability, and workload characterization across releases, platforms, and customer scenarios.

You will also be accountable for transforming how performance testing is executed, analyzed, and validated-modernizing the practice through automation, AI/Agent-assisted analysis, intelligent validation, and resilient test pipelines. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of leading teams through transformation initiatives that measurably improve productivity, quality, cycle time, and operational resiliency.

Your Opportunity:

  • Lead and grow a team of performance engineers responsible for end-to-end performance testing of a database product (benchmarks, workloads, regressions, scalability, concurrency, and reliability under load).
  • Own the team's delivery commitments for performance characterization requests across internal stakeholders (engineering, product, release, support) and external/customer-driven scenarios.
  • Drive a transformation roadmap for performance testing that improves:
    • Execution automation (repeatable runs through orchestration pipelines that are self-healing, observable and secure)
    • Result analysis using AI and Agents(regression detection, noise modeling, confidence scoring, explainability)
    • Root Cause Analysis Automation using AI/ML techniques (root-cause hypothesis generation, correlation analysis, report synthesis for performance issues)
    • Modernize Test Framework to expand capabilities and assist in shift-left abilities
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, and release teams to translate product changes into performance risk assessments and targeted test plans.
  • Influence design decisions by providing early performance insights and recommendations.
  • Communicate clearly to senior leadership: performance readiness, risks, mitigation plans, and trends using metrics and executive-ready summaries.
  • Implement governance: baselines, test data versioning, environment parity, noise controls, and auditability of results.

Who you will work with:

This opportunity is within the Internal Engineering Organization. Team comprises of multiple global scrum teams working towards a common goal to test and release Teradata Vantage Platform and AI Products on various on-prem and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GC) with quality and performance guidelines.

Fast-paced, flexible, fun. That describes our work environment... a place to brainstorm with the best data minds, engage customers and surprise yourself with what's possible, every day.

What makes you a qualified candidate:

  • 10+ years in performance engineering, test engineering, systems engineering, or a related discipline; 4+ years leading teams and delivering transformation roadmaps.
  • Demonstrated experience in database performance testing or closely related systems (distributed systems, storage engines, query optimizers, large-scale compute platforms).
  • Strong understanding of performance metrics and analysis: CPU, I/O, memory, concurrency, latency/throughput, query plans, system contention, and benchmarking methodologies.
  • Proven track record modernizing engineering practices through automation and operational rigor (CI/CD, test orchestration, observability, reliability engineering).
  • Proven experience applying AI/ML and/or LLM-based tooling to improve engineering productivity (analysis automation, anomaly detection, summarization, intelligent triage).
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills: ability to align stakeholders, negotiate priorities, and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience presenting to senior leadership.

What You'll Bring

    • Hands-on experience with one or more:
      • Database internals (optimizer behavior, execution engine, indexing, statistics)
      • Performance tooling (profilers, tracers, query plan analyzers, APM)
      • Python/SQL-based analytics and visualization; statistical methods for noise and confidence intervals
      • Cloud performance testing across AWS/Azure/GCP
    • Experience building internal platforms for: test scheduling/orchestration, results repositories, dashboards, automated regression detection using AI.
    • Familiarity with modern AI/agent patterns for engineering workflows (RAG for runbooks, agentic root-cause assistants, evaluation harnesses).
    • Experience with security and compliance expectations for AI-enabled systems (data handling, access controls, audit trails).
    • Background working in organizations undergoing AI proficiency/AI adoption transformation.
