Job responsibilities:


  • Provide technical leadership in all facets of project delivery including innovations in tendering, estimating and planning plus involvement in industry research and standards whilst embracing an impressive suite of company systems in achieving cost effective outcomes.


  • To ensure all work carried out conforms with agreed codes and practices, meets all requirements of the contract specifications and ensure all work is carried out within agreed schedule & budget following Company procedures.


  • Initiate and oversee specific pipeline design tasks performed by engineers related to onshore pipeline systems. Able to plan the work, delegate appropriately, drive the team and have an effective coordination with distributed teams (GID and other support offices) for optimized execution.


  • Able to guide team on use of standards to achieve safe and sustainable design with a focus on value creation. Able to set KPIs for the team members and monitor the same with an empathy and encouragement to achieve or exceed the set KPIs.


1. Technical Authority & Subject Matter Expertise


  • Acts as discipline technical authority for onshore pipeline engineering, approving key technical deliverables and design philosophies.
  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge in pipeline routing, sizing, hydraulic analysis, stress and flexibility analysis, wall thickness design, stability and constructability.
  • Applies sound engineering judgement to resolve complex technical challenges independently.

2. Engineering Leadership & Mentoring


  • Provides technical leadership and direction to engineers and designers across multiple execution centres (Home Office, GID and satellite offices).
  • Coaches, mentors and develops junior and senior engineers, setting clear performance expectations and supporting competency development.
  • Promotes a strong engineering culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

3. Codes, Standards & Regulatory Compliance


  • Expert knowledge of international codes and standards applicable to onshore pipelines (ASME, API, ISO, ASTM, etc.).
  • Strong experience applying client-specific standards and specifications, particularly Middle East operators (e.g. ADNOC Onshore, AG, QatarEnergy, QELNG).
  • Ensures all engineering deliverables comply with contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.

4. Project Execution & Delivery


  • Proven capability to deliver Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design projects within agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality targets.
  • Plans and controls discipline work, including resource loading, work-sharing with GID, and technical interface management.
  • Supports project managers and discipline managers with execution strategies and risk mitigation plans.

5. Health, Safety & Risk Management


  • Demonstrates strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) principles in design and execution.
  • Leads and participates in design safety studies, constructability reviews, risk assessments and value engineering workshops.
  • Ensures pipeline designs are safe, operable and compliant with Worley and client HSE requirements.

6. Quality Management & Technical Assurance


  • Ensures technical integrity of all pipeline deliverables through effective checking, verification and approval processes.
  • Applies the Worley Quality Management System consistently across all activities.
  • Drives lessons learned and continuous improvement in engineering processes and standards.

7. Stakeholder & Interface Management


  • Interfaces effectively with project management, clients, licensors, vendors, construction teams and internal disciplines.
  • Provides clear technical communication and timely resolution of issues across discipline and project interfaces.
  • Supports technical clarifications during proposals, project execution and construction phases.

8. Commercial & Schedule Awareness


  • Understands project economics, cost estimating, change management and schedule impacts of design decisions.
  • Supports proposal development, estimates, technical clarifications and execution planning.
  • Balances technical excellence with commercial and delivery considerations.

9. Digital Tools & Systems Proficiency


  • Advanced user of pipeline engineering tools (e.g. Caesar II, Excel, MathCAD or equivalent analytical tools).
  • Competent in Worley engineering systems, document management systems and digital workflows.
  • Encourages effective use of digital tools to improve efficiency and consistency.

10. Professional Integrity & Continuous Improvement


  • Demonstrates high standards of professional ethics, accountability and integrity.
  • Actively contributes to discipline initiatives, standardisation, innovation and best practice development.
  • Keeps abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies and evolving standards.
Specific Accountabilities

-Leading discipline team onto the assigned project(s). Discipline team may comprise of multi-cultural and/or multi-location resources.


-Experience in preparation of Pipeline Design documents independently and complete the design activities within specified schedule & budget.


-Self-motivated, shall work independently leading the team of engineers & designers for the project with effective communication with Project Managers/PEMs and Discipline Manager.


-Pro-active, should be able to guide Engineers & Designers on technical and non-technical issues towards effective solutions.


-Capable of executing multiple tasks and delivering it efficiently within specified schedule.


·Pipeline route selection, to optimise costs of new pipelines.


·Pipeline sizing and design to meet performance criteria.


·Cost estimating for pipelines and facilities.


·Providing pipeline construction support.


·Up to date knowledge and experience in onshore pipeline design codes for oil and gas industry


·All design engineering activities, project management skills, technical execution and completion of assigned engineering tasks


·Assisting the project engineers in the co-ordination and preparation of input into the contract documents for each discipline area, including design criteria, scope of work, procedures and design approach.


·Monitoring team productivity with effective budget control measures.


·Liaison and co-ordination with other engineers and discipline groups on the contract to effect timely production of deliverables.


·Technical writing activities, in particular, production of technical reports and procedures


·Provide interpretation and verification of design & engineering


·Facilitate and administer interdisciplinary coordination


·Providing proposal inputs for the new jobs under bidding stage.


·Setting high performance standards for the team of engineers working on the assigned project.


  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the Oil & Gas Business Unit.


  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety, safe working practices for the Oil & Gas Business Unit. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

Industry Specific Experience


  • Must have vast pipeline design engineering experience in the Oil and Gas industry industry. 


  • Extensive experience in Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design of Oil and Gas onshore pipeline projects. 

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training


  • Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university


  • MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) engineering accreditation is a mandatory requirement. Candidates not holding this accreditation must be willing to achieve this within the probationary period


  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or undertaking the same will be an advantage 


IT / Systems Skills:


  • Computer skills particularly in the use of CEASER package for stress analysis and knowledge of the onshore pipeline design calculations for wall thickness, buoyancy, upheavel buckling, etc. in Excel/ Math Cad.
