Job description

  • Coordinate all civil and structural design activities related to EHV substation projects to ensure timely and accurate development of engineering deliverables in compliance with project requirements.
  • Act as the focal point for civil design coordination between the engineering consultant, EPC contractor, client, and internal project teams.


  • Review submitted drawings and documents for completeness, technical consistency, constructability and interface compliance prior to submission to the client/consultant.
  • Support the preparation, review and coordination of:
    • RFIs / TQs
    • Design clarifications
    • Design change notices
    • Value engineering proposals where applicable
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil and structural design for EHV substations, including:
    • Reinforced concrete design concepts for heavy equipment foundations and buildings
    • Steel structure foundations and structural interfaces
    • Building layouts and substation civil arrangement requirements
    • Cable trench, duct bank and utility corridor design coordination
    • Site grading, earthworks and finished level coordination
    • Drainage, oil containment and external infrastructure works
  • Ability to review and coordinate:
    • Design basis reports
    • General arrangement drawings
    • Civil and structural design drawings
    • Foundation schedules and structural details
    • Technical specifications, BOQs and material submittals


  • Strong capability in multidisciplinary design coordination, ensuring all civil deliverables are aligned with electrical and MEP requirements.
  • Ability to identify design clashes, constructability issues, missing information and interface gaps at early stages.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and coordinating engineering deliverables using:
    • AutoCAD
    • MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • PDF mark-up / document review tools
    • Familiarity with BIM / Navisworks / common data environment platforms is an advantage
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of overall experience in civil/structural design and engineering coordination, with at least 7–10 years dedicated to EHV/HV substation projects (132kV / 220kV / 400kV).
  • Proven experience in the design coordination of EHV GIS/AIS substations and associated utility infrastructure works.
  • Strong background in civil and structural design coordination for substation facilities, including but not limited to:
    • GIS / control / relay / telecom / admin buildings
    • Transformer, shunt reactor and equipment foundations
    • Gantry and steel structure foundations
    • Cable trenches, duct banks and utility corridors
    • Underground services, storm water and foul drainage systems
    • Roads, paving, hardscape and site development works
    • Boundary walls, fencing and security-related civil works
    • Oil containment pits, firefighting tanks and other utility structures
  • Experience in coordinating civil/structural engineering deliverables with electrical, MEP, protection/control and telecom disciplines for substation projects.
  • Previous experience in UAE / GCC utility projects is highly preferred, especially for transmission or grid substations.
  • Familiarity with client / consultant review processes, design approvals, IFC drawing development, technical clarifications and multidisciplinary interface management.
  • Experience in handling and coordinating:
    • Design submissions and re-submissions
    • Material and technical submittals
    • RFIs / TQs / design comments
    • Design change requests and variation-related technical assessments
  • Strong exposure to consultant / client comments resolution, engineering coordination meetings and ensuring timely closure of design review comments.
  • Experience with EPC contractors, engineering consultants and utility clients on fast-track substation projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of international codes and utility-specific standards relevant to substation civil and structural design.
