Job description

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design review, construction oversight, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and related building systems across university projects and facilities. The role encompasses electrical infrastructure and building services, including substations, high- and low-voltage distribution systems, emergency power systems, generators, and ELV systems such as structured cabling and networking, SMATV, car park management systems, gate barriers, fire alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV surveillance systems, building automation, system integration, lighting controls, and IT-related systems.


The successful candidate will provide technical expertise throughout the entire project life cycle, from feasibility studies and design development through construction, commissioning, handover, warranty, training, operations, and the defect liability period.


Job Responsibilities


  • Conduct project feasibility studies and identify preliminary project requirements.
  • Review consultant design documentation, including drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports, and provide technical input throughout all project stages from feasibility to the end of the defect liability period.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and budgets for electrical materials, equipment, and labor for in-house projects.
  • Provide technical support to project teams and supervise consultants, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Develop and review design specifications, equipment selections, system configurations, plant layouts, and instrumentation diagrams in coordination with design consultants.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, university departments, consultants, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings, design reviews, progress meetings, and technical discussions.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements, engineering standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct site inspections and provide sign-off for installations, testing, commissioning activities, and approved project variations.
  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, safety standards, and project specifications.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify and address potential delays to ensure timely completion.
  • Carry out snagging and defect inspections, prepare reports, and oversee rectification works before project handover and during the defect liability period.
  • Investigate equipment failures, diagnose faults, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within approved scope, budget, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Prepare Material Requisitions (MRs) and Work Requisitions (WRs) for tendering and bid inquiries.
  • Conduct technical evaluations, bid tabulations, and contractor/vendor assessments.
  • Review and respond to technical queries, technical deviation requests, material approval requests, and other project-related technical submissions.
  • Support operational teams through project handover, warranty management, training, and post-project technical assistance.

Required Skills and Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited and reputable university.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience in electrical engineering, construction, and building services.
  • At least 8 years of experience managing and delivering large-scale projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including HV and LV distribution, substations, emergency power systems, building services, and ELV systems.
  • Thorough understanding of local electrical authority regulations, codes, standards, and international engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in site supervision, construction management, testing, commissioning, and project handover activities.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with the latest building technologies, smart building systems, and integrated electrical solutions.
  • Experience in project management, quality assurance, and quality control processes.
  • Electrical design experience is required; candidates with engineering consultancy experience will be preferred.
  • Experience in project estimation, budgeting, and cost control is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of energy management principles, energy-efficient building systems, and sustainability practices for new and existing facilities will be considered an advantage.
  • Exposure to mechanical systems, testing, and commissioning activities will be considered an added advantage.
  • Valid UAE driving license is required.
