Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and guide the activities related to the dredger. Teach, advice and guide the crew on daily base to increase their level of understanding of the dredging activities on board in order to achieve a higher quality, safety, technical reliability, production and operational hours


  • Final responsibility for operational management (Both nautical and regarding the dredging process), coordinating operational, non-operational, nautical and administrative activities, and consulting with the project management


  • Captain is in charge of the daily management of the ship, production, and crew and assumes final responsibility for all related areas (described in detail below). To supervise and guide the activities related to the dredger 


  • Advice and guide the crew on daily base to increase their level of understanding of the dredging activities and nautical aspects on board in order to achieve a higher quality, safety, technical reliability, production and operational hours


  • Give highest priority to safety on board and motivates his/her crew (e.g. by communication of the safety policy, wearing personal protective gear


  • Communicates the project safety and environment plan to the crew and organises its execution


  • Hold safety meetings, toolbox meetings, necessary exercises and drills on board as required


  • Analyses accidents, near accidents and unsafe situations


  • Know and respects at relevant national and international laws and rules and is responsible in case of noncompliance


  • Responsible for correct waste treatment on board


  • Captain is an active member of the project team lead by the Project Manager


  • Final goal of his/her function is to increase the net margin of NMDC


  • Captain has the ultimate responsibility of the safety and daily operation of vessel and his crew, as being prescribed by Company procedures and guild lines


  • Captain has full power in coordination with DS/TS/PM, to take whatever action he deems to be best in order to safeguard the interest of vessel and its crew


  • Powers:


  • Defend the Company's viewpoints


  • Final word in regards to all activities on board of vessel which are not limited to operations, planning, maintenance, deck department, engine department etc.


Specially:


  • Ensure that the works assigned to him are executed safely and without risks for the health, quality and environment, both according to the customer's requirements and those of the company


  • Report of defects to vessels or their auxiliary equipment to the Technical Department, the Project Manager and the head office


  • Daily production reporting to and consultation with the Project Manager, the Project Team on the operational activities, more in particular on the progress of the works for which he is responsible


  • Execution of the work in accordance with the local environmental prescriptions and regulations Immediately reports delays (technical, weather, unexpected conditions) to the project management team + estimated time of resumption of work


  • Investigate any damage to the vessel, personal injuries of crew and the environmental effects of the vessel this includes monitoring any pollution and checking for oil spills around the vessel and at ports and harbors


Duties:


  • He will exercise overall control of vessel maintenance and operation and welfare, discipline and training of crew in order to create and maintain a high productive and efficient and safe working environment


  • Identify and analyse training needs. Teach and guide crew on board in dredging techniques, planning of deck- and engine room related activities Generate production reporting on each operation


  • Provide input on the planning in agreement with the SD/TS on a day-to-day basis


  • Provide guidance and train subordinate to achieve common goal


  • Hold performance evaluation reviews with crew members (taking knowledge AND attitude into account) and points out the resulting needs for training (for engine room personnel: in consultation with Chief Engineer)


  • Keep an eye on and stimulates the good cooperation and atmosphere on board (for instance, by setting the example, by appreciating diversity, by radically countering racism, harassment             by establishing rules, ...)


  • Keep track of the of all soil conveying parts (deck lines, impellers, inner/outer pump houses, shieves, suction mouth, etc..) by means of a register based on the characteristics of the dredge material and the pumped volume track of the W&T of coating pipeline


  • Captain will keep track and plan maintenance of vessel and will schedule the maintenance in alignment with the project team


  • He will verify if maintenance is done on time and perform regular checks if all equipment's are safe for operations


  • Advice the dredging superintendent in respect of: Planning of the work process, dredging patterns, shore connections etc.


  • Assess the crew and provides honest and detailed evaluations to all Crewing- Operations- and


  • Technical department


  • Implement the maintenance plan of vessel in accordance with technical Department objectives


  • Accident report: Reports all accidents, to the project manager, HSE manager and designated person. Quality Assurance: He ensures all tasks and control related to quality as specified in relevant project quality plan


  • Provide input in regards to possible upgrades/ small and major upgrades/ small and major modifications to improve reliability and production of the vessel


  • Provide Lessons learned register and implementation of the action points


  • Execute the ISM-management on board and arranges that all required drills/inspections are performed at the required intervals


  • Generalist view of a Job that you have been assigned for— at times you will be ask to do above/beyond the scope of this role due to Operational/Technical requirements


  • Identify hazards


  • Obtain information from HSE Department


  • Make recommendations to HSE Department


Investigate Incidents



Qualifications:
  • Valid COC & endorsements, Class 1 Master


  • Valid GMDSS & other STCW certificates


  • Hold valid statutory license issued by flag authority for specific on board job


  • Be Familiar with SMS (safety management system), & ISPS


  • Risk Assessment / PTW
