Marine Platform Operator Role Overview

The Marine Platform Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of unmanned surface and underwater vehicles during nearshore and offshore missions. The role centers on mission execution, real‑time system monitoring, operational discipline, and structured logging to support validation activities and continuous performance improvement.



Purpose of the Role

To execute robotic missions safely and consistently while providing accurate operational data and feedback that contribute to system validation, refinement, and overall mission success.



Key Responsibilities
  • Operate unmanned surface and underwater vehicles during offshore and nearshore missions.



  • Execute mission plans, including navigation, data acquisition, and recovery procedures.



  • Monitor system performance, identify anomalies, and respond appropriately in real time.



  • Conduct pre‑deployment and post‑deployment checks, ensuring proper mobilization and demobilization.



  • Maintain structured logs of operational activities, deviations, and mission outcomes.



  • Identify autonomy or system irregularities and provide clear feedback to Field Engineers.



  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance mission effectiveness and vehicle performance.



  • Support routine maintenance, configuration updates, and system readiness tasks.



  • Exercise authority to halt or abort missions when safety or system integrity is at risk.

Qualifications & Skills Educational Background

Diploma or degree in marine studies, robotics, engineering, or a related technical discipline.



Experience Level

Minimum of 2 years of experience operating unmanned marine platforms or robotic systems is preferred.



Technical Skills
  • Experience with mission planning and control software.



  • Ability to interpret telemetry, diagnostics, and system health data.



  • Understanding of marine operational procedures and field practices.



  • Basic knowledge of robotics, autonomy systems, and mission workflows.



  • Exposure to ROS or similar robotic frameworks is an advantage.
