Job description

Black & Grey HR is seeking a Port Engineer to join our client's marine operations team based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This is a permanent office-based role with regular vessel visits, drydock attendance, and port travel as required, providing technical management and oversight of the company's owned and long-term chartered vessel fleet.


You will be responsible for ensuring vessels are maintained in full compliance with class, flag state, statutory, and client requirements while overseeing planned maintenance, drydock execution, technical procurement, and vendor management. Working closely with vessel Masters, Chief Engineers, class societies, shipyards, and technical service providers, you will ensure fleet reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness across all assigned vessels.


Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) across the assigned vessel fleet, ensuring maintenance activities are completed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, class requirements, flag state regulations, and company procedures.

- Plan, prepare, and oversee drydock projects, including repair specifications, work scopes, shipyard coordination, budget control, and attendance during key inspection and execution milestones.

- Coordinate the procurement of technical spares, machinery, equipment, and specialist services to maintain vessel operational readiness while ensuring cost-effective purchasing and timely delivery.

- Review and monitor technical service reports, maintenance records, class surveys, statutory inspections, and certificate validity to ensure continuous compliance across the fleet.

- Investigate machinery failures, equipment breakdowns, and technical defects, working closely with vessel engineers and service providers to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

- Manage technical contractors, repair vendors, OEMs, and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

- Ensure compliance with flag state, class society, ISM Code, statutory regulations, and ADNOC or other client-specific technical requirements for all assigned vessels.

- Support vessel inspections, technical audits, client vetting processes, pre-charter surveys, and regulatory inspections by preparing technical documentation and coordinating corrective actions where required.

- Monitor technical maintenance budgets, repair costs, spare parts expenditure, and operational performance, providing regular reporting and cost control recommendations to management.

- Maintain accurate technical documentation, maintenance history, equipment records, and fleet reporting systems while driving continuous improvements in vessel reliability, safety, and technical performance.


Requirements- Class 1 or Class 2 Marine Engineering Certificate of Competency (CoC/OOW).

- Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline is advantageous.

- Proven experience as a Technical Superintendent, Marine Superintendent, Fleet Technical Manager, or similar shore-based technical role managing commercial vessel fleets.

- Strong knowledge of planned maintenance systems (PMS), drydock planning, machinery maintenance, technical procurement, and vessel repair management.

- Excellent understanding of class society requirements, flag state regulations, statutory compliance, ISM Code, and marine engineering best practices.

- Experience coordinating shipyards, class surveyors, technical vendors, OEMs, and repair contractors.

- Strong problem-solving, budgeting, stakeholder management, and technical reporting skills.

- Experience supporting offshore support vessels, workboats, tugs, barges, or similar commercial marine assets is advantageous.

Certifications (Please attach below certificates)
- Valid Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (Class 1 or Class 2 CoC).

- Valid STCW certification.

- Previous experience working with recognised Class Societies is preferred.

- ADNOC approval or previous experience supporting ADNOC marine operations is highly advantageous.
