Job DescriptionOverview

The Resident Engineer – MEP will oversee all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works on a metro/rail project, ensuring execution aligns with project specifications, safety standards, quality requirements, and timelines. The role involves managing contractors, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards.


Your role

Project Management & Supervision


  • Act as the primary site representative for all MEP-related works.
  • Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems including HVAC, power supply, lighting, fire protection, plumbing, and ELV systems.
  • Ensure works are executed in compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Monitor progress and provide timely reports on performance, risks, and mitigation strategies.

Design & Technical Oversight


  • Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals.
  • Ensure integration of MEP systems with civil, structural, and rail systems.
  • Resolve technical issues and provide engineering guidance to the project team.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards (e.g., NFPA, IEC, ASHRAE) and UAE authority requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination


  • Liaise with client, consultants, contractors, and government authorities (e.g., RTA, DEWA, Civil Defence).
  • Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and coordination workshops.
  • Ensure alignment between design, construction, and operations teams.

Quality Assurance & Compliance


  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures and project quality plans.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify quality of MEP installations.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies and site safety regulations.

Testing & Commissioning


  • Oversee testing and commissioning of all MEP systems.
  • Ensure system performance meets operational requirements for metro infrastructure.
  • Coordinate handover, documentation, and authority approvals.

Contract Administration


  • Review contractor progress, variation orders, and claims related to MEP works.
  • Verify invoices and certify completed works.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled by all parties.
About you

Education


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Experience


  • Minimum 20 years of experience, At least 8-10 years in metro/rail or large infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience in the UAE or GCC mandatory.

Technical Skills


  • Strong knowledge of rail MEP systems (tunnels, stations, depots).
  • Familiarity with HVAC (tunnel ventilation), traction power, SCADA, fire/life safety systems.
  • Knowledge of UAE authority requirements (DEWA, RTA, Civil Defence).

Certifications (Preferred)


  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
