Job Description:


 Responsible for the care and welfare of laboratory animals used in scientific and medical research and teaching and maintaining breeding programs to fulfil the research needs.  Follow up strict veterinary health procedures for the different animal species to avoid inter-species cross infections and other medical and scientific concerns.  Develop and renew policies and procedures.  Assist in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in different animal laboratory techniques & research methodologies.  Supervise the breeding of various laboratory animals (Rats, Mice, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits etc.) to fulfil the research needs of UAEU.  Responsible for human care and welfare of laboratory animals.  Recognize animal behaviour and symptoms that indicate an illness or accident, initiate the treatments, and report to the Chair of the animal house facility committee (AHFC).  Monitor the activities and the experimental procedures done on the animals by other researchers and report any inhumane or unethical practices to the Chair of the AHFC.  Monitor and control the population of the animal colonies according to the assigned space.  Receives and looks after new animals’ well-being when they arrive from abroad at the facility and keep them in the quarantine area.  Assist in procurement of animal feed, husk, cages or other requirements and ensure stock availability for future needs.  Maintain sanitation standards for animal rooms and cages.  Monitor the environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting) in the animal rooms and report immediately in case of any variations.  Record any deaths and dispose of the carcasses according to the health protocols.  Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department.


Minimum Qualifications:


Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with appropriate experience as above.


Experience/Skills:


• Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, etc. • Communication skills in Arabic and English. • Interpersonal skill. • Understanding of work ethics. • Problem-solving capability. • Competencies in all the detailed tasks and responsibilities previously described.


Preferred Qualifications:


Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with appropriate experience as above.
