## Role Purpose
Avighna is hiring a Sulphur Trader to manage trading flows of elemental sulphur (prilled, granular, and formed) sourced from Gulf refineries and gas-processing operations, sold primarily into the global sulphuric acid and phosphate fertilizer supply chain. This role sits at the intersection of the region's oil & gas by-product supply and the seasonal demand cycles of major fertilizer producers.
## Why This Role
The Gulf is one of the world's largest sources of elemental sulphur as a by-product of oil and gas processing, and global phosphate fertilizer demand — driven by agricultural cycles in Latin America, South Asia, and North Africa — continues to underpin structural demand for sulphur exports. This role offers direct exposure to both energy-sector supply dynamics and agricultural-commodity demand cycles.
## Key Responsibilities
**Trading & Deal Execution**
- Originate and negotiate purchase agreements with Gulf sulphur producers (refinery and gas-processing marketing desks) and structure offtake arrangements.
- Sell sulphur into key demand markets — sulphuric acid and phosphate fertilizer producers in North Africa, Brazil, India, and other importing regions — on FOB/CFR/CIF terms.
- Manage a live trading book, track open positions against shipment schedules, and report P&L.
**Supplier & Buyer Relationship Management**
- Build and maintain relationships with national oil companies, refinery/gas-plant marketing desks, and independent sulphur producers.
- Develop and manage relationships with fertilizer producers and trading houses in key import markets, including periodic buyer visits.
- Represent Avighna in sulphur/fertilizer industry forums and conferences.
**Logistics & Operations**
- Coordinate bulk vessel logistics (Handysize/Panamax), port loading and discharge scheduling, and quality inspection (moisture content, purity, form — prilled/granular/formed/crude).
- Manage documentation for export/import compliance, certificates of origin, and quality certificates.
- Resolve quality claims, demurrage, and delivery disputes in coordination with operations and legal.
**Risk, Trade Finance & Compliance**
- Structure trade finance instruments (LCs, CAD terms) and manage counterparty and country/sovereign risk, particularly given exposure to state-linked producers and varied buyer-market credit environments.
- Ensure compliance with sanctions screening, export control, and relevant regulatory requirements across trading jurisdictions.
- Maintain accurate trading, shipment, and financial records for internal and audit purposes.
**Market Intelligence & Reporting**
- Track sulphur pricing benchmarks (Argus/CRU FOB Middle East assessments), freight rates, and seasonal fertilizer-sector demand patterns tied to crop cycles.
- Monitor competing sulphur supply from other producing regions (Central Asia, Russia, Canada) and global phosphate/fertilizer market trends.
- Provide regular market updates, demand forecasts, and trading recommendations to management.
## Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience trading sulphur, sulphuric acid, phosphates, or related oil & gas by-products/fertilizer inputs.
- Solid understanding of sulphur forms and specifications (prilled, granular, formed, crude/molten) and their end-use requirements.
- Familiarity with bulk shipping, Incoterms, and trade finance instruments used in Gulf commodity exports.
- Existing relationships with Gulf refineries/NOCs and/or fertilizer producers in North Africa, Brazil, or India are a strong plus.
- Understanding of fertilizer-industry seasonal demand patterns and their effect on sulphur pricing.
- Bachelor's degree in business, chemical engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent trading experience considered.
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally for supplier/buyer relationship management — estimated 15–25% travel.
